How To Choose Ballroom Dance Shoes- Continue

Sizes

Ballroom Dance by []NEEL[], via Flickr

Dance shoes are typically made and sold in European sizes, which are generally 1.5 sizes smaller than American sizes. This is not always true, so check size charts carefully if you're doing ordering online.

Maintaining Your Dance Shoes

Tiny stones, like ss16, ss12, ss10 look best on shoes!

Heels protector perform three important tasks, they protect the floor, they give you more traction, and they protect the heels of your shoes. The little heels tips on your shoes wear out quickly, and replacing them will cost $5 or more. When they wear out, they expose the nails that attached them to the shoes. Plastics heels protector will prolong the life of your shoes ( and your investment ).

Very Fine Men's Salsa Ballroom Tango Latin Dance Shoes

Shoes brush- Suede soles lose their naps after the couple of mouth ( more often if you wear them outside of the ballroom ). Buy a steel- bristled shoe brush with a handle to refresh the nap in your shoes. These are available at dance shoes vendors, or you can buy a steels " file brush " from a hardware store ( the kind that used to clean the grit out of the files ). Be sure to get the handle with a good grip, to prevent damage to your skin from contact with sharp bristles.

bling!

Scotchguard- Ladies, if you buy satin shoes, used some SCOTCH GUARD or other fabric protector on them before you wear them. They are very difficult to clean after they are getting dirty.

How to Choose Ballroom Dance Shoes?

What Was The Difference Between Ballroom Dance Shoes And The Regular Shoes?

This GEM SOLE(arch-deco) for Salsa shoes. ~by Diferente original.

The biggest difference is the soles. Ballroom shoes have a thin, suede sole. The allows the shoes to glide on the dancing floor, with just right amount of grip. Ballroom shoes are also very flexible, allowing the movement necessary to show off your dancing technique. In competition, women will wear tan or fresh- coloured shoes, to extend the look of the leg, and not call too much attention to the feet.

What Are The Types Of The Ballroom Dance Shoes?

The only thing better than shoes? DANCE shoes! #danceRAL FALL OVERSTOCK SHOE SALE!! Women's-$50 Men's-$60 $10 OFF Celebrity Shoes All Shoe Sales are FINAL From Now until Saturday, October 5th!

The three basic types are Latin, Standard ( also called " Court " or " Modern " ) and Practice shoes. Shoes should be selected not only for appearance but for comfort, support, performance and protection. Some women prefer the closed- toe- shoes, because they offer some protection against being stepped on, and they shield your toenails from your partner's shoes.

If you buy a pair of insoles, you can probably double the number of hours you can dance in comfort. The best insoles are the one sold for running shoes. Avoid the " gel " kinds, because their squishy nature voids much for the precision contact you need with the floor.

Latin shoes for women was typically an opened-toed sandal with a heel from 1 to 3 inch high. The standard heel height is 2.5 inches. If high heel hurt, try adding arch support. If you only buy one type of shoes, it is generally recommended that you start with the Latin sandal.

Men's Latin Ballroom Shoes

STUNNING BALLROOM DANCING

Men's Latin shoes have what is called a Cuban Heel that is 1.5 inches high. Most men only wear Latin shoes for competition, and you do not see men wearing them often for social dancing outside of the ballroom.

Standard shoes for women are closed- toed pumps. The heel is positioned more centrally under the foot than a Latin sandal's, in order to ease backward movement.

Men's standard shoes are usually a black oxford- style- laced- up with a heel comparable to regular dress shoes. Men, if you only purchase one type of shoes, it should be the standard.

Practice shoes are optional. Women's practice shoes resemble a man's standard shoe with a higher heel. You can also buy dance sneakers that have suede soles.

How To Make A Ballroom Hairstyle

How To...Ballroom Hair

Doing a proper hairstyle for competitive ballroom dancing is an important part of the aesthetic package, and really adds polish to your look. Wearing a blingy dress, shinning jewelry and lots of makeup just doesn't the same effect when they're paired with a floppy, messy and stringy hairstyle. Also there's a practical element to it- when your hair is neat and out of your face, its not distracting to you or the audience.

perfect side braid into bun // (If only my hair was thick enough to make a side braid look this cool...)
Messy Hair- Chic and cool for everyday life and all, but not so much for ballroom dancing.

Olga Kulikova
Classic Low Ballroom Bun For Competition

Ladies learn to tame your hair into an immovable ( but pretty ) sort of helmet. The ubiquitous and simplest style to do is a low bun, one that come out just about at the nape of your neck.
Start with relatively clean hair. You might find that leaving it a bit dirty ( not washing it for a day or two days ) helps it more tameable, and not so slippery. If you have normal hair then you have to do was smooth it back into a tight, neat, low ponytail and twist it up into a bun.

What To Do If You Have Short Hair-

For short hair dancers, you can gel it back, similar to be like a men style, but with a little bit more flair ( but not straight back, that would look kind of weird, maybe with a part? ). For smooth/ standard, finger waves look awesome,
Alternatively, a bit of teasing and spraying might do the trick. You can also experiment with curls and various pins or decorations. If it's supper short you properly don't need to do much other than spray a bit to keep it relatively neat.

Latin Dance Costume- What's HOT What's NOT- Continue

Beads And Penny Sequins Latin Dress

Latin dresses decorated with large penny sequins or made out a sequined fabric have become very popular recently. Such Latin dresses style require little stoning and sparkle great on the dance floor.

The Prefect Little Black Latin Dress

Among the abundance of colours, texture and patterns present on the dance floor a black Latin dress may unexpectedly looks very refreshing. Black dress is classy, elegant and sexy. It also a great choice for every lady.

Fur And Feathers

Once extensively used in standard grown, feathers will left out for awhile and come back in Latin dancewear. Designers used both boa and individual feathers to decorate the Latin dresses. Latin costume adorned with feathers looks very chic and classy through adding some extra headache to its owner when it comes to clean the dress.

Latin Dance Costume- What's HOT What's NOT- Continue

Draped Latin Dance

Drapes and float comes many shapes and forms so it would be a very generalized descriptions of Latin dance dresses. For most part such dresses require very soft stretchy materials such as mesh, angelskin and thin stretchy satin to make the drapes and float hug of body in a natural looking way. Making draped dress is a non trivial task, however the outcome will pay itself out. A well made draped dress always looks very high class and expensive, even being only moderately decorated.

Patterned Latin Dancewear

Animal, flora or abstract prints- all these kind of patterns will looks very fresh on the dance floor as opposed to dresses in solid colour and are very likely to attract the attention of the audience.
Tiger and leopard print Latin dresses will never go out of style. Such Latin costumes looks hot and daring and represent the great choice for a bold, confident dancers. Animals print dresses often combined with red decorations or trimmings, to create an image of a wounded animal or with golden accessories for a more glamorous look.

Empire Waist Latin Ballroom Dresses

One of the recent trends in Ballroom Latin fashion, empire waist dress. A great choice for petite ladies and it visually elongates the body and makes the girls look taller. This is however quite a tricky style that wouldn't suit any dancer. First of all dancers with shapely legs and large hips should by all means avoid such style. Empire waist Latin dresses also require the dancers hip technique to be just perfect so that the dancing moves could be easily seen through the loose layers of fabric.

Latin Ballroom Dance Costume- What's HOT What's NOT

It might quite hard to pick Latin dress for competition. On one hand there is a variety of style, fabrics and decorations to choose from. On the other you need a dress to suit all 5 dances, which are completely different in mood, style and pace. A red and black Latin dress will look very expressive during the passionate paso doble or tango, however it will be somewhat out of place during the Jive and joyful Samba.

Apart from the difference in dance style there are also other things to be considered when looking for the Latin costumes. These are the particularities of the body type of each dancer, their dancing level and choreography. Each dancer have to approach very carefully his/ her strong and weak sides to look for the costumes that would emphasize individual style of the dance couple. It is wise to consult with the coach or a Ballroom or Latin dress designer for a professional and unbiased opinion.

During the Latin dance competition the couple only has a few minutes to impress the judge and the audience, therefore the Latin competition costume should be very creative, just as their dancing routine. Ballroom dress designers are constantly experimenting with different fabric, colours and patterns, looking for new styles that could stand out on the dance floor.

Fringe Latin Dance Dresses

Fringe is the one of the most popular decorations used in Latin dancewear. It greatly emphasizes the movement of the dancer. It doesn't require much stoning to look good. It can be attached in very different ways to the dress, therefore it suits almost any body type. For a short girl with a curvy body I would recommend to avoid Latin dresses where the fringe is sewn horizontally and very densely. It will add more volume to the body and visually shorten it. Rather opt for a Latin dress where the fringe is sewn in small tassels and attracted in small portions on the hips and bust.
Another good idea is consider to a Latin dress decorated with beaded fringe sewn in individually. It would emphasize the movement of the dancers while not putting up weight. Latin dress made with beaded bugle fringe sparkle immensely, quite similar to those decorated to rhinestones. One of the recently introduced materials is fringe made of sequins; it is much lighter and just as sparkling.
